Marbury v Madison, McCoullough v Maryland & Judicial Review

Marbury v Madison (1803)
established the powers of the Supreme Court to decide the meaning of the Constitution, a power called now “Judicial Review.”

McCulloch v Maryland (1819)
affirmed the “supremacy” of the Constitution and the power of the “necessary and proper” clause (along with the Court’s power to interpret them.
